DIGBETH
OR IBIZA?

The Great Escape

We know Birmingham like the back of our hand, so when Will Power & Dee Dixon set out to create Café Lovelife, we knew it would need to be so much more than just another café hidden in the backstreets of Digbeth. They had something much bolder in mind, a Mediterranean-inspired escape that would be as memorable for its vibe as it was for its menu. The location, Floodgate Street, offered a blank canvas. The challenge? It was a stark, industrial space, practically the polar opposite of the warm, inviting feel of Ibiza they envisioned. But it’s challenges like this that turn a ‘good’ project into a great one.

Concrete Jungle - Literally

The concept was ambitious: bring together the industrial edge of Digbeth and the soft curves of Mediterranean architecture to create something that felt both grounded and effortlessly escapist. The arches became the star of the show, inspired by Digbeth’s iconic railway arches but reimagined with a Mediterranean twist. These weren’t just architectural features; they became the link between two worlds.

Every detail of Café Lovelife was carefully considered to ensure it wasn’t just another dining spot but a genuine destination. Somewhere people would want to discover and be seen. The design narrative centred on those iconic archways, creating a space that felt both distinctive and inviting. A warm, soft pink palette, inspired by Mediterranean hues, brought a sense of comfort and relaxation, encouraging guests to linger. The open kitchen offered diners an immersive experience, letting them watch their meals come to life, while the show-stopping bar became a visual and social focal point, effortlessly transitioning the atmosphere from day to night.

Pink Vibes

What made Café Lovelife truly special wasn’t just the look, although that pink palette and those arches are hard to forget. It was how the space felt. The open kitchen added a layer of energy, letting diners feel part of the culinary magic happening behind the scenes. It wasn’t just a place to eat; it was a place to experience.

A taste of the Med

By the time the café opened in October 2023, it had already started making waves. Within weeks, the interior design was flooding social media, with locals and visitors alike snapping pictures of their brunches against those now-iconic arches. What began as a dream to create the best brunch spot in Brum quickly became more than that. Café Lovelife is now a favourite for everything from restorative Sunday lunches to evening catch-ups over drinks.
