Inspired by NYC, never themed
Building on bold foundations
Manahatta already had a loyal following, but the brief pushed us to think bigger. We needed to bring fresh energy while still honouring the brand’s roots. The challenge was to create something that felt timeless yet exciting, familiar yet full of surprises.
Working across two locations with a new team was a chance to collaborate in fresh ways. By focusing on clear communication and a shared understanding of the vision, we ensured that every detail, no matter the site, aligned perfectly with the concept.
NEW YORK SPIRIT, LOCAL STYLE
We took our inspiration from the contrasts that make New York so compelling: the grit of the streets, the glamour of its nightlife, the layers of texture and light. Every design choice was made to evoke the feel of a timeless escape where every detail is bold but considered.
The back bar became a focal point, blending Art Deco-inspired arches with modern digital screens to set the mood. Neon lights weren’t just accents; they became part of the structure, spilling into mirrors, signage, and layered lighting. Edinburgh introduced window seating to make the space more inviting for daytime visitors, while Nottingham leaned into rich materials and striking colours to transform its corners into moments of discovery.
And yes, the mirror ball. A statement piece inspired by New York’s New Year’s Eve celebrations, it doesn’t just catch the eye—it holds the space together, providing a sense of occasion.
More than a sprinkle of glam
Making it real
The journey from concept to reality started with research. We immersed ourselves in New York’s nightlife, high-street bar trends, and the tastes of modern customers. With this foundation, we created a concept that married luxury and technology: velvets and brass alongside moving mirror balls and custom LED screens.
Our role during implementation focused on procurement and coordination. We sourced quotes for lighting, furniture, and artwork, while attending site visits at key moments to ensure the design stayed true to its intent.

A glam attitude
Mirrorball glitter collides with the streets and grit of New York City. We take ownership of that disco narrative, transforming it from an interior design staple into a fully integrated story that radiates through every touchpoint of our communications.
Our mirrorball sparkle is captured through bold flash photography with added reflections and luxe lighting effects for extra glamour. Paired with layered graffiti textures, we created a striking contrast, a bold visual representation of glitz & grit, where street meets style.
Graffiti and its significance
Street soul
Graffiti is woven into the fabric of New York, and it’s a defining feature in our design. It’s raw and expressive, but always carefully balanced to enhance rather than overpower the space.
Every scribble and mark is layered with intention, bringing texture and depth that feels effortless. The result is a look that’s organic and authentic, as if it’s grown naturally into the space, rather than being placed there. It’s bold without being brash, perfectly capturing the streets’ energy.
Bright lights and big city energy
Word on the street
At the Edinburgh launch, there was a moment that summed it all up. The staff, who had clearly been navigating the chaos of opening night, found time to celebrate together. It was spontaneous, genuine, and exactly the kind of energy these spaces were built for.
Since opening, both venues have created quite a buzz. They’ve quickly become go-to spots for locals, with Christmas bookings rolling in almost immediately. Online reviews have been glowing, with guests praising everything from the “gorgeous décor” to the “great atmosphere and fantastic service.”
