CHALLENGE Having designed the chef's first Middle East restaurant at W Dubai – The Palm, Keane were appointed to design the interiors for Tono, Akira Back's Nikkei concept at The Pearl, Doha. The brief was for a room that could match the cuisine's hybrid identity: Japanese precision meeting Peruvian flair.
POWER OF HOSPITALITY THINKING™ The thinking was to make the interior tell the Nikkei story. Rather than carry the fusion only on the menu, the room was designed as a journey through Peru's landscapes, materials and colour shifting between distinct sections. An eleven-metre parametric tree, inspired by tropical buttress roots, anchors the centre.
OUTCOME The result is a Doha restaurant where Peru and Japan meet in the room as well as the kitchen, with Megu's former space reopened under the chef's signature.
